Possum Merino yarn was developed in New Zealand from an idea spawned by an enormous environmental problem. The burgeoning numbers of introduced marsupial opossum ravaging the extensive native forests of our country.A technique was conceived to produce a yarn, by twisting the fur of the invasive opossum, with high quality merino wool, grown in the mountainous high country of the South Island. Today we have a luxurious yarn, which combines the special characteristic of the hollow core of possum fur to trap warmth, with the warmth and moisture absorbing qualities of merino wool. Possum Merino yarn is lightweight, breathable and naturally therapeutic, along with being extraordinarily warm.The knitwear created from this yarn is beautiful and desirable, treasured by many now, throughout the world.
